By Home décor has always been a true love of mine. In college, I had the opportunity to learn more about décor through a retail management internship and wow it changed me. From that point forward, my favorite sections of department stores were not the beauty and fashion, but housewares and stationery. Go figure.
A person’s style or taste can evolve depending upon what phase they are in their lives. From living the single life to being a couple to having a family or even a roommate, the little accents, colors, textures, and artwork all reflect upon the person who chose it.
In the past two years, my eye for home décor design has evolved tremendously and is still in progress. I used to think that I wanted this formal British monarch décor with over-the-top gold or silver accents and plush pillows. I wanted something super formal that matched.
Boy was I wrong.
After re-doing my bedroom as it currently is, I realized that it wasn’t me at all. While it’s definitely beautiful, it didn’t reflect the person I am striving to be. So, what’s a girl to do? Well, I thought of the perfect solution.
My goal for 2019 is to curate my future home by creating a home décor scrap book. Within this book, I’ll be combining images of pieces that reflect my personal style. Room by room, I’ll have a clearer idea of how to decorate my future home. This also serves as a wonderful manifestation tool. Envision what you want, and take the necessary steps to make it happen.
Back to the topic at hand.
So, I’ve been saving quite a few images on Instagram and following décor designers to get a better glimpse into the process of selecting pieces that align with your personality. I love plants (although I don’t have a green thumb. Booooo!). I love colors and textures. I want to feel like every time I come home, that I am almost walking into a resort getaway bungalow. I want to feel the comfort envelope me in its arms.
I couldn’t put my finger on how to describe this exact terms until recently after browsing the Instagram explore page.

After making use of my keywords, I came across so many marvelous examples of home décor styles that gel with my spirit. I can tell those who pull this off well took special care with selecting pieces for their home. They didn’t casually roll up in a department store and choose. They sought out vintage pieces and went to markets and boutiques, and added carefully crafted pieces handed to them from a family elder.
Connecting with this bohemian, mid-century style felt like coming home. I am so excited to get started on this journey. I am speaking my new home into existence and can’t wait to bring you all along for the ride.
