After viewing a post by TheFrugalFitGirl, I was inspired to embark on my own goal setting journey by creating 18 goals to accomplish before 2018.
What I like about this concept is that it allows you to weed out all of the many goals we tend to have and simply focus on a set number of goals. Even if you don’t fully complete everything on the list, the list helps you focus on your main priorities. I am super excited about this overall because it will challenge me to stay committed to a certain number of action items. Once December rolls around, I will be able to look back at the progress I’ve made and take notes on how to move forward.
When I set goals, it’s easier to consider each quarter of the year rather than lumping everything together. 90 day planning is pretty powerful if you focus on maximizing that concentrated slot of days. In fact, I use 90 day plans in my planners. This is one of the most effective ways to be purposeful and intentional with your actions.
I personally like to put my goals in two separate categories: Personal and Professional. Here is an example below:
PERSONAL GOALS |
PROFESSIONAL GOALS |
Transition to a vegan lifestyle |
Finish my book |
Learn how to speak Spanish |
Release my new planner |
Lose 15 pounds |
Nurture relationships |
For each goal, I can then expand on the aim by developing a bigger picture for each goal. Here is an example:
Personal Goal: Transition to a Raw Food Lifestyle
WHY: I came to the conclusion that eating meat, dairy, gluten, and sugar 100% of the time has not been good for my system. I have had to watch people get sick, knowing that their choice of diet was a big culprit. I do not want to fall under the same fate. I do not want to give medical companies my money or spend time in the hospital. My diet is my cure.
HOW: I will take advantage of the extraordinary resources online and in bookstores that show you ways to eat healthy without compromising your taste buds. I will create my own personal handbook with recipes, shopping lists, and other tools as I embark on this journey. Meal prepping will also be a targeted action. I will keep my mindset positive so that my actions will reflect this goal.
Setting goals in this format changes the game!!
So, I challenge you to take a sheet of paper or use a planner page to write down your 18 goals with a WHY (your core driving force) and a HOW (your action steps).
