Dine-In: Char Restaurant Memphis

Saturday, a friend invited me to attend her birthday lunch. She’s very passionate about connecting women to each other and thought this would be a great way for some of her favorite people online to meet one another in person while also celebrating her day! She decided on Char, a restaurant planted near my alma mater the University of Memphis. I had no idea of the existence of this restaurant and was excited to try it out.

Upon walking in, I was greeted by the hosts, who were super friendly and ready to accommodate us. My friend reserved a private room, and when I arrived, quite a few ladies were ordering mimosas and other beverages. I ordered a mimosa with cranberry and it was a bit more tart than I liked, but with extra cranberry juice added, I enjoyed it more. The private room seats 16-18 people comfortably and was positioned in the perfect spot to let the bright sun in. The sun was a welcome sight for us, as Memphis had been experiencing storm after storm. We were overdue for a beautiful day of weather.

After delightful and quite candid conversation, picture taking, and plenty of laughs, we finally decided to order. I settled on the Creole Sauté, which includes a delicious mix of crawfish, lump crab, andouille sausage and Delta Grind garlic cheddar grits ($16). The Creole Sauté was divine! Definitely had a spicy kick to it but flavorful nevertheless, and I added a biscuit on the side for extra measure. Other ladies ordered the crab cakes benedict, custard-fried French toast with sides of bacon, and Memphis spiced fried chick with a Belgian waffle and spiced syrup. YUM!

The rest of the Char restaurant is charming, with room for people to have nice meetups. Their dinner menu has a variation of choices that include fine seafood cuisines (scallops, grouper, redfish etc.) and gumbo, oysters, or even fried green tomatoes. Staff went over and beyond for our experience and we are so thankful to them.

I would highly recommend Char to anyone looking for a unique and pleasant brunch. It’s just a short drive to the middle of the city, and easily accessible! There is really no reason to not go check it out!
